April newsletter

I’m about to step into big change as I take leave for three months to have my second child.

Social Enterprise Australia will be in magnificent hands. Our leadership team has grown and this is the right time for many things I have held to pass to their great skill and care - not just while I’m away, but ongoing.

During this time, the strategic and practical Alex Hannant - our Director who co-led the research on which our work is based - will backstop the role of CEO. His focus will be internal - providing clarity and care so the team can deliver existing plans. Our remarkable COO Christina Chun will be the key person to reach out to about day-to-day operations or working with us.

I will be offline until the start of August, creating space to hold love and care for two small people.

A huge thank you to our team and Board for their care and support.

I look forward to reconnecting when I return to the shared work towards an economy that puts people and the planet first.

A big moment for jobs-focused social enterprise

Decent work can help address disadvantage, but too many Australians can’t access it. This is one of the four challenges the social enterprise sector said we want to help tackle.

With so much national attention in this space, the Social Enterprise Jobs Summit (Melbourne, 11-12 June) is a big opportunity to build momentum for a future where everyone has access to decent work.

I’ll be back from leave briefly to open the summit and introduce the key things we’ll unpack over the two days: what makes or breaks a jobs-focused social enterprise, challenges and gaps in support, the real cost of impact, and the direction and opportunity of a shared strategy.

With our co-host White Box Enterprises, and in response to what people have told us is important, we’ve created a program to share ideas and learnings, build relationships, and plan together.

Check out the full program and book your tickets here.

Bursaries are available until 5pm today (Thursday 17 April) for those facing cost and distance barriers. We’re especially seeking applications from WA, SA and NT. Find out more and apply here.

I hope to see you there!

Cheers,

Jess Moore
